To celebrate International Women's Day, here's a selection of some seriously inspiring female musicians!
Alice Phelps can be found performing under many different guises, either with her harp accompanied by strings and a choir singing beautiful ethereal music, fronting the Gator Dog Snappers a New Orleans Brass Band or playing guitar and singing away the blues. This night she'll throw a little bit of all of these in the mix.
Djanan Turan: Pop doesn’t come more captivating or more accomplished than in the hands, mind, voice and spirit of Djanan and her beloved fellow musicians. Welcome to the wonder world of Djanan’s with infectious synth riffs, a world-beat wave of contrasting sounds collected from Europe, the Balkans, Mediterranean. For this special occasion, she will be sharing some of her newest songs with a cosy acoustic set.
Daisy Beau performs both as a solo artist and with many other innovative collaborators. Listening to her voice blend jazz and folk harmony with grungey guitar may elicit thoughts of Cat Power, Jeff Buckley and Ella Fitzgerald having a splendidly musical ménage à trois. Daisy records, produces and manages all her own releases. She curates and produces experimental music projects, and often accompanies her music with video art, zines, poetry and illustration. Her multi-disciplinary & DIY methods continually challenge and redefine the norms of female performance and musicianship.
Nina Harries is a classical-folk-punk master. Both the operatic and the fuqqing weird. Guaranteed to make you think, laugh and cry, not necessarily in that order.
