This all day, multi-media, reggae festival, will be indoors and out in the fabulous extensive garden, with a fully Family Friendly long afternoon. We will entertain you with music of Jamaican origin, of the highest order, throughout this session. From Ska, through Rocksteady, to classic Roots and on to contemporary Steppers. All spun in traditional Soundsystem style.

‍

This will be a historic event as it features the great Neville King on the wheels of steel. The renowned producer was born in St James, Jamaica. Neville’s Soundsystem had long residencies in Brixton, Tooting, Peckham and Streatham during the 1970s. During those times he was a mentor to Blacker Dread, Levi Roots and David Rodigan.

Neville King launched his own record label in London in 1976 and quickly struck gold. He issued exceptional roots material by Prince Lincoln and the Royal Rasses and Jacob Miller. Mr King also released his own, original, lover’s rock productions. His works, on the King and City label, by local heroes One Blood are particularly sought after; “Be Thankful” having assumed classic status.

‍

We are also really pleased to be welcoming a full live band, the legendary Ukadelix. This accomplished all woman band have a diverse, eclectic, repertoire; that includes a self penned number called “Dub Club”. The number is all about us, so how could we not have them along to play for us? Hopefully it’ll be available in recorded form by then, with a vocal input from our own Good Doctor ( who’s name checked in the lyrics.)

‍

The great Doc Murdoch will be joining us on the mic over the whole day, peppering up the rhythms with his distinctive vocal stylings. He’ll be featuring particularly strongly in the D.D.C. Crew slot, in the evening session. However he’s a wicked selector too and he’ll have a slot in the garden, during the day.

‍

We’re delighted that we’ll also be welcoming another mighty DJ/Selector, Club stalwart, Papa Scotchie. Papa is a well-established figure on the London reggae scene, he has DJed at nights across town and is also well known for his radio shows on vrlradio and beyond.. The vibrant Scotchie exudes positive vibes and can be relied upon for a scintillating Reggae Revive set, presented with style.

‍

Waxy’ll kick us off and then he’ll reappear leading the Deptford Dub Club Crew section of the proceedings, with live horns. Soft Wax has been a Zelig-like figure in the sphere of roots, rock, rebel music for decades. He has been the resident selector of the Deptford Dub Club since 2013. He has also played out throughout the Capital, across the nation and over the Herring Pond in NYC. For this session, we’re thrilled that our resident saxophonist Natty P. will also be focusing on his own, self penned material under his stage name RaSamurai. Also featured will be Tombone, our regular trombonist.

‍

Club stalwart Natty Nick will be stepping up to grace the decks. Expect a carefully chosen selection of classic Ska, Rocksteady and early Reggae. A warm-up selection will come from bastion of the Club Selector Becca, who recently wrote a memorable article for the Guardian about her passion for Reggae and extensively name checking the D.D.C. We’re looking forward to her early, guest selection.

‍

There will also be very special guests t.b.c..

‍

The multi- media dimension of this event, which will also feature visual art, Soundsystem threads, records and culture; provided by Drop da Biscuit, prize winning artist Fret and Lewisham Rebel Music Map, in the fabulous garden. There will be hot food available all day.

‍

The day will run from 3pm til 12.30am and has been put together by Deptford Dub Club and Drop Da Biscuit.

All this FREE B4 6pm and a mere £3 after.
